Research Assistant, Binghamton University
What do you wear to work? Usually jeans, a t-shirt, and sneakers. It is required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. In the lab, I also have to wear safety glasses, a lab coat, gloves, and sometimes a face mask.
What is a typical day like at your job? Arrive at the lab, plan out work for the day, talk to my graduate student mentor, get to work on my project, write up work at the end of the day.
Where do you work? In a science building on a floor with offices and laboratories. I work mostly in the lab, but there are some important things to do in the office as well.
What types of people do you interact with at your job? Professors, graduate students, undergraduate students, high school students, lab technicians.
Bio: Rose is a chemistry research assistant at Binghamton University. In addition to two summers of research experience, she is also studying chemical engineering at University of Notre Dame. To do the work that Rose does, creative thinking, determination, steady hands, and a willingness to learn are all important!
