Library Scientists (aka librarians) are checking books into the future! They expand, manage, and organize the entire library system. Library scientists decide what to purchase for the library collection (children’s books, young adult, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, movies, music, etc.). In addition to paper books, they are responsible for expanding the media options to audio books, e-reader books, and online books. No more card catalogs for these professionals! They are trained to create and manage large digital databases to make online catalogs possible. Library scientists are also responsible for creating education programs for children, teens, and adults. Most librarians earn a university degree in computer science and/or literature and also complete a master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
