Biophysicists use the principles of physics and chemistry to better understand living things and biological processes. They may work to learn how nerve cells communicate or how proteins function. Biophysicists have helped create vaccines against diseases and develop medication for diabetics, among many other accomplishments. Their work requires advanced technologies and techniques such as lasers and computer modeling. They often work in teams with experts in other fields such as physics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering. To do independent research as a biophysicist, you need a doctorate.
