Astrobiologists are searching for life in far-out places! They study the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe, which includes life on the earth as well as life that may possibly exist on a planet light years away! Don’t go thinking that we’re going to be making contact with little green men from a far-off galaxy anytime soon, though–while some astrobiologists are trying to find evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence by sending signals into space, much of astrobiology is focused on researching habitable zones around distant stars, searching for microbial life on Mars (look into the Curiosity rover if you’re interested!), and researching organisms that can live with extreme conditions on Earth. If you want to be an astrobiologist, you’ll want to study some astronomy, biology, chemistry, and physics!
