Your Challenge: Learn how to make your own play-dough!
Materials:
Saucepan
Non-Stick Cooking Spray
Measuring Cups & Spoons
Hotplate
Stirring Spoon
Ziplock bag
2 C. Flour
1 C. Salt
4 tsp. Cream of Tartar
2 Tbsp. Cooking Oil
2 C. water
Food Coloring
Here’s How:
1.) Spray the bottom and sides of the saucepan with non-stick cooking spray.
2.) Measure out the proper amount of each ingredient from the list above and add it to the saucepan.
3.) Mix the ingredients together using the stirring spoon.
4.) Cook the mixture on the hotplate over medium heat, stirring constantly for three minutes. Stop when the mixture resembles mashed potatoes.
5.) Remove the saucepan from the hotplate and let the play-dough cool for at least one minute.
6.) Add a few drops of food coloring of your choice, then knead and roll the play-dough until it has a soft, smooth texture.
7.) Store play-dough in an airtight bag or container when not in use.
*When you are cooking and/or baking, it is important to follow directions precisely. You always want your measurements to be accurate when preparing your ingredients.

A ratio expresses a proportion. If you know to use a water to milk ratio of 2:1, read as “two to one”, this means that there should be twice as much water as there is milk. Answer the following questions about ratios: A chocolate chip cookie recipe calls for a 2:4:2 ratio of sugar, flour, and milk. If you have 2 cups of sugar, how much flour and milk should you add? A glitter slime recipe calls for a 1:1:1 ratio of clear glue to water to liquid starch. You and your lab partner each want to take home ½ cup of glitter slime. How much glue, water, and starch will you need to use to be sure there is enough slime for both of you?
